Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a diagnosis?

No. CBT can help with specific problems and patterns, whether or not you have a formal diagnosis.

How many sessions will I need?

CBT is often time-limited. Many people find 6-12 sessions helpful, but it depends on your goals and what you want to work on. We will agree goals and review progress regularly. Some people start with a few focused sessions.

Is this online?

Yes - sessions are online. You will receive joining details after booking.

How do I join sessions?

After booking you will receive a Microsoft Teams link by email. You can join on your phone, tablet, or computer, and you can usually join directly in your web browser (no download needed).

What do I need to bring to session?

Just yourself. If you like taking notes, a pen and paper (or notes app) can be helpful. As therapy progresses we may agree between-session tasks, which you can bring along to discuss.

What will we do in the first session?

We will clarify what is bringing you in, agree goals, and start building a shared understanding of what is keeping the difficulty going. We will also agree practical next steps.

Can I cancel or reschedule my session?

Yes. You can cancel or reschedule as long as it is more than 48 hours before your session start time.

Can CBT help if I have tried therapy before?

Often yes. We can adapt the approach, focus on what did not work previously, and build a plan that fits you.

I am a parent - will I sit in on sessions?

It depends on your child's age, preferences, and what feels most helpful. Sessions are often 1-to-1 with the young person, especially for older children and teens. For younger children, parents or carers can sometimes be helpful co-therapists to support practice between sessions. We will agree a plan together.

Are these sessions confidential?

Yes - sessions are confidential and your privacy is taken seriously. There are limits to confidentiality in some situations, for example if there is a serious concern about risk of harm to you or someone else, or where safeguarding responsibilities apply. Wherever possible, I would discuss this with you first.

What if I am in crisis?

This service is not an emergency service. If you are at immediate risk or need urgent help, contact emergency services or your local crisis team.
